Record Store Day 2018
For Record Store Day 2018, we partnered with Dead Media records to plan a big block party that not only included the release of some exclusive vinyl, but also local music, food, ticket giveaways, and more. According to the staff at Dead Media, business had at least doubled in comparison to the Record Store Days of years past.
We collaborated on the booking process, and wanted to curate an eclectic lineup that represented many genres within the Minneapolis music scene. The lineup included The Controversial New ‘Skinny Pill’, Cult of Percolation, New Primals, Sass, C. Kostra + Tekk Nikk, Moodie Black, Waveless, and The Fox Loves. Our lineup spanned from punk, to techno, to noiserap, and everything in between.
Radio K had our van parked near the stage and set up some yard games, such as cornhole and pingpong, to get people closer to our merchandise booth. We set up a table where we gave away free Radio K merchandise, popular vinyl records, and tickets to shows that featured artists commonly spun on-air, which we obtained through working out a deal with First Avenue. Additionally, we provided programming between the live sets. Lastly we secured food for purchase from Modern Times Cafe, which was the cherry on top of a wonderful day.
(Fun fact: This event was exactly one week after 2018’s big April Blizzard, and we were so lucky to have some sunshine and warmth on Record Store Day.)
